Association of hepcidin with serum lipids, triglyceride-glucose index, and High-sensitivity cardiac troponin T in Metabolic syndrome population

Abstract Background Hepcidin has been viewed as a reliable surrogate of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. We investigate the correlation between Hepcidin with serum lipids, triglyceride-glucose index, and High-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (Hs-cTnT) in community-based population by using Hs-cTnT as measuring indicator for myocardial injury. Methods We analyzed the association of baseline Hepcidin with serum lipids, triglyceride-glucose index, and Hs-cTnT levels in 1447 subjects from a community-based population in Beijing, China. Results There were significant differences in age, sex, smoking, SBP, HDL-C, LDL-C, Sd-LDL, PCSK9, LDL-TG, Apo EH, Lp(a), eGFR, hepcidin and Hs-cTnT between populations with or without Mets (P < 0.05). In correlation analysis, hepcidin was correlated with TG (β = 0.663; p = 0.002), sd-LDL (β = 9.893; p = 0.015), PCSK9 (β = 16.385; p < 0.001), RLP-C (β = 8.530; p = 0.011), LDL-TG (β = 4.652; p = 0.006), and TyG (r = 0.246; p < 0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that baseline hepcidin (β = 0.584, 95%CI:0.236–0.932, P = 0.001) was positively correlated with follow-up Hs-cTnT levels in subjects with Mets. Additionally, HDL-C levels were negatively correlated with follow-up Hs-cTnT levels (β=−0.429, 95% CI: -0.791- -0.066, P = 0.021). In subjects with Mets, Logistics regression model showed that hepcidin was associated with elevated Hs-cTnT (HR = 2.534, 95%CI: 1.267–5.357, P < 0.05), but not for non-Mets group. Model 1 showed that high hepcidin was a risk factor for elevated Hs-cTnT independent of hepcidin, TG, Sd-LDL, PCSK-9, RLP-C, LDL-TG, Lp(a) and HDL-C in subjects with Mets (HR = 3.284; 95%CI: 1.015–10.634, P < 0.001). Conclusions Our findings in a Chinese cohort suggest that hepcidin is a risk factor for elevated Hs-cTnT in patients with Mets.
