Public perceptions and economic values of source-separated collection of rural domestic waste

This chapter describes the behavioral analyses of rural solid waste (RSW) treatment and the public’s perception of the source-separated collection. Additionally, the contingent valuation method is used to calculate respondents’ willingness to pay (WTP) for the separation and management of RSW. This information can be used as a guide by management decision-makers to better support the classification collection of RSW in the future. Additionally, the various WTPs for RSW separation and management are contrasted. Finally, policy recommendations are made, and it is recommended that immediate action be taken to raise public awareness of environmental issues and behaviors through education and publicity, including RSW separation, reduction, reuse, and recycling.
