Tanshinone I attenuates estrogen-deficiency bone loss via inhibiting RANKL-induced MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways

•Tanshinone I inhibits RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis in vitro.•Tanshinone I impedes osteoclast formation via the upregulation of antioxidant gene expressions and inhibition of the RANKL-induced MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways.•Tanshinone I prevents estrogen-deficiency bone loss in vivo.
