Research on Risk and Suppression Measures of Lightning Strike on Adjacent Buried Oil and Gas Pipeline under Tower

To reduce the hazards of buried oil and gas pipeline when lightning strikes the transmission line tower. In this paper, the risk of pipeline lightning stroke is studied, and restraining measures are proposed based on the layout of tower grounding devices. By establishing the buried oil and gas pipeline model adjacent to the tower grounding device, a simulation test is carried out to verify its accuracy. Also, the risk coefficient of pipeline lightning stroke is defined and divided into three types of risk areas. Then effects of three restraining measures on pipeline potential rise, isolation, vertical drainage and horizontal drainage, is discussed. The results show that the adding isolation wall for voltage reduction is the best of all, which can decrease about 38.2%. Measures of Drainage have better effect for voltage reduction in the case of high soil resistivity. The grounding body about 30 m has the highest benefit. Finally, a combination of measures is proposed, which can reduce the risk coefficient to near the safety zone. The research results can provide support for the control and prevention of the risk of burning and explosion near the buried oil and gas pipeline when lightning strikes the line tower.
