Event-triggered grid-forming control for power converters via switching approach

This paper studies event-triggered grid-forming control for power converters via switching approach. Recently, grid-forming control based on matching of synchronous machines was suggested by using continuous measurements. In the present paper, we extend these results to the case where the measurements are sent to the controller via communication network. To reduce the network workload, we suggest an event-trigger (ET) via switching approach. Then the closed-loop system is presented as a switching between the system under periodic sampling and the one under continuous ET, where we take the maximum sampling preserving the stability as the lower bound of inter-event time avoiding the Zeno behavior. We construct appropriate Lyapunov functionals to derive linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) for finding the maximum sampling that guarantees the global exponential stability of a shifted equilibrium. Numerical case study illustrates the efficiency of the method.
