This paper proposes an advanced discontinuous PWM (DPWM) method for the five-leg inverter (FLI) driving dual induction motors (IMs). The rotation carrier-based DPWM (RCB-DPWM) method has been proposed to increase the efficiency of FLI. However, the RCB-DPWM does not minimize the power loss under the conditions where the torque of the two motors are different. Therefore, this paper proposes an advanced DPWM method based on absolute value of the output current. Since the power loss proportional to the magnitude of the output current, the efficiency of the system can be maximized by applying the proposed method. The simulation results are shown to verify the performance of the proposed method.
