Research on Grid-connected and Off-grid Control Strategy of Advanced Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage System

In the background of the application of compressed air energy storage system to participate in grid regulation, due to the large capacity of compressed air energy storage, access to the grid and off-grid will bring instability to the system, so how to keep the compressed air energy storage system on-grid and off-grid can maintain the stability of voltage and frequency as well as normal absorption and emission of power becomes an urgent problem to be solved. This paper proposes a control strategy for the compressed air energy storage system in both grid-connected and off-grid modes, so that the compressed air energy storage system can transmit power to the grid in a stable manner during grid-connected operation, while providing voltage and frequency support for the system during off-grid operation, thus maintaining stable system operation. Finally, simulation models are built in MATLAB/Simulink for parallel and off-grid simulation, and simulation analysis is also carried out for switching from grid-connected to off-grid and from off-grid to grid-connected to verify the rationality and feasibility of the parallel and off-grid control strategy.
