A novel catalyst-free method for the synthesis of mono- N -substituted thioureas in water

Mono substituted thioureas are valuable chemical building blocks for the synthesis of pharmaceutically relevant molecules in both academia and the industry. We report here a catalyst-free preparation of mono substituted thioureas under very mild reaction condition. Condensation reactions of amines with carbon disulfide in ammonia solution gave mono substituted thioureas in good to excellent yield under catalyst-free condition.
