Real-Time 3.4-Gbit/s DMT-VLC Transmission with Block Precoding Techniques

Channel-independent precoding technique can improve the bit error rate (BER) performance, which is mainly benefited from its subcarrier signal-to-noise ratio equalization. In this paper, we experimentally demonstrated two fast Walsh-Hadamard transform-aided block precoding techniques for real-time discrete multi-tone (DMT) and red light-emitting diode-based visible light communication systems. The results exhibit that the real-time precoded DMT signal with a net rate of 3.4 Gbit/s can transmit over a 2.3-m free-space link with the BER below 1e-3.
