•A novel photovoltaic/thermal-air source evaporator (PV/TAE) is designed.•The effect rule of different effect factors on the PV/TAE is obtained.•The structural parameters of finned air duct and refrigerant channel are optimized.•The optimized system shows better heat collection and PV power performance.
