Research on nonlinear static and dynamic characteristics of linear guideway in machine tools considering carriage flexibility

As an important component of high-end machine tools, the static and dynamic characteristics of the linear guideway directly affect the machining accuracy of the machine tools. However, most existing literature ignores the effect of the carriage flexibility on the static and dynamic characteristics of the linear guideway. Therefore, this paper proposed a five degree-of-freedom nonlinear dynamic model of the linear guideway considering the carriage flexibility, based on which the static and dynamic characteristics for the linear guideway can be obtained. Firstly, according to the coordinate transformation, the position of the groove centers when the carriage is a rigid body is determined. Next, the FE simulation is used to obtain the relation between the contact load and the carriage flexible deformation. Then, the final position of the groove centers considering the carriage flexibility is calculated, and a five degree-of-freedom nonlinear dynamic model of the linear guideway is established. Finally, the Newmark–Newton numerical algorithm is proposed to solve the nonlinear dynamic equation, and the proposed model is validated through experiments. Furthermore, the static and dynamic characteristics of the linear guideway under the effect of the carriage’s rigidity and flexibility are discussed comparatively.
