A Graphical Approach Toward Identification of Synchronous Generator Using Unit Trip Data and High-Resolution 3-Phase Load Angle Meter

The design and implementation of a highly precise 3- phase load angle meter are presented in this paper. The proposed load angle meter employs an ARM-based STM32F429 processor to compute the load angle at a dozen intersection points of 3-phase stator voltages within each cycle. Hence, the measurement resolution of the suggested method takes precedence over existing techniques that can find the load angle once per cycle. This method is beneficial for estimating synchronous generator (SG) minuscule time-constants during the sub-transient period. Besides, an efficacious test procedure and parameter estimation algorithm considering the saturation effect is recommended in this paper for SG parameter identification. The proposed test procedure is a lowcost, practical method that can be carried out at any power plant. The designed load angle meter, along with the proposed test method, has been deployed in a 161.6 MW steam unit, and the results show the effectiveness of this approach.
