Decoupling Design of Dual-Band Shared-Aperture Antenna Using Frequency-Selective Surface

A shared-aperture dual-band dipole antenna is proposed, which consists of an upper low-band (LB) antenna and a lower 10×10 metasurface high-band (HB) antenna. The HB antenna is analyzed by using characteristic mode analysis theory and embed the dipole structure of the metasurface antenna. Different from the traditional non-resonant metasurface antenna, the feeding dipoles are embedded into the metasurface structure and participates in the global resonance. At the same time, the frequency selective surface (FSS) structure is added to obtain electromagnetic transparency, which is achieved by etching slots in the radiation unit of LB antenna and the periodic structure unit of HB antenna. The bandwidth of the proposed shared-aperture antenna with |S 11 | 10 dB is 1.54-2.58 GHz (50.5%) and 3.59-5.17 GHz (36%). The gain of the LB antenna is 8-8.8dBi, and that of the HB antenna gain is 12.5-14.5dBi. The simulated results verify that the proposed shared-aperture dual-band dipole antenna using FSS can obtain stable radiation performance in both LB antenna and HB antenna.
