摘要

•Habit Reversal Therapy (HRT) is an effective behavioral intervention for reducing tics.•The hypothesized premonitory urge-tic cycle and its role in HRT lack support.•A dynamical systems framework can improve tests of the mechanism underlying HRT.•Findings were inconsistent with existing hypotheses regarding HRT change mechanism.•Tic suppression did not disrupt the urge-tic cycle consistently across participants.•Most participants did not experience urge reduction patterns consistent with habituation.
