Metastasectomy for metastatic melanoma in the era of effective systemic therapy

•Survival of metastatic melanoma is significantly improved in the era of effective systemic therapy (EST).•Metastasectomy was associated with improved survival in both the pre- and post-EST groups.•This suggests a persistent survival benefit from metastasectomy in the post-EST era.
