Utilizing Geospatial Data Analytics to Evaluate and Counteract Landslide Vulnerabilities in Sikkim's Hill Tourism Infrastructure

Tourism is the total of activities by the people, of the people and for the people. If the tourist destinations are disaster-prone, people's movement will be very limited, and very less revenue would be generated. As a result, the destinations will suffer from a lack of investment. Indian hill tourism destinations are very vulnerable and endure forest fires, floods, earthquakes, landslides and so on. Landslide-related problem is the highest hazardous issues in hill tourism which is the major cause of revenue loss and making destinations seasonal. This research paper addressed the landslide-related issues in hill stations and Sikkim was considered as the study area. The researchers also formulated a new “Landslide Susceptibility Model” and “Landslide Susceptibility Map” using a geospatial tool that would help all tourism stakeholders and planners find out landslide-prone areas in Sikkim. This will provide resilience to the tourism planning process.
