•V@S-Ta3N5/PANI is successfully prepared via mechanical and in-situ polymerization methods.•Various techniques were used to reveal the structural and morphological of materials.•Light-driven water splitting via V@S-Ta3N5/PANI composite was favorably demonstrated.•Improvements due to efficiency in separation, low recombination, and a prolonged period of e–-h+ pairs.
