Compound drought and heatwave events in the eastern part of the Baltic Sea region

•An insignificant decrease in the number of drought days was observed in most of the study area.•A significant increase in the number and intensity of heatwaves was found in the entire study area.•The number of CDHEs had increased, however, changes are mostly insignificant.•Eight out of ten identified CDHEs were recorded in 1994 or later.
