The reaction of [Sc(CH 2 SiMe 3 ) 3 (THF) 2 ] with an equimolar amount of 1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidinium chloride in toluene proceeds with a deprotonation of the latter and activation of a CH-bond of one of methyl groups in the ortho- position of the 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl substituent to form an alkyl complex {[κ 2 -C-(2,4,6-Me 3 C 6 H 2 )N(CH 2 ) 3 N-4,6-Me 2 C 6 H 2 -2-CH 2 -κ 1 ]Sc(μ 2 -Cl)CH 2 SiMe 3 } 2 coordinated by a κ 1 C:κ 2 C-bonded expanded-ring NHC-ligand.
