SH0 Wave Transducer Based on YbBa3(PO4)3 Crystal for High Temperature Structural Health Monitoring

The fundamental shear horizontal (SH 0 ) wave is regarded as an ideal wave mode for developing structural health monitoring (SHM) systems due to its non-dispersive feature and minimal energy loss. However, it is very challenging to excite and detect pure SH 0 wave achieve high temperature SHM due to the limitation of materials. In this work, a novel YbBa 3 (PO 4 ) 3 (YbBP) piezoelectric crystal was grown and YbBP-based SH 0 wave piezoelectric transducer was proposed. Both numerical simulation and experimental results show that the YbBP-based transducer is capable of exciting and receiving pure SH 0 wave in the four main directions (0°, 90°, 180° and 270°) with a wide working frequency (150 kHz ~ 400 kHz), exhibiting its great potential for application in the high temperature SHM.
