Performance Optimization of UAV-Assisted Networks with mmWave Antennas.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-assisted network is emerging as a new promising solution to provide rapid deployment, high flexibility, and low-cost services for supporting civil and military applications. To ensure its stability and reliability under complex environmental conditions, we optimized the deployment of UAVs and antenna configuration, where the Matérn hard core point process (MHCPP) is used for UAV deployment and each UAV is equipped with millimeter wave (mmWave) antenna that can adjust beam width and radiation direction to enhance specific directional signal strength. Thus, we derived an approximate expression for the coverage probability under MHCPP distribution. Simulation results show that the network achievable throughput can be increased by up to 47%, and the coverage probability of typical GU reaching to an upper bound about 89%, which are illustrated significant advantages in performance improvement.
