Despite significant advancements and research on various aspects of microgrid, the question of their economic viability and the cost of enhanced supply reliability through the microgrids remain a critical consideration. This paper evaluates different scenarios of microgrid deployment in a community with poor supply reliability. A pragmatic approach is employed for microgrid costing and solutions scenarios, with results presented in terms of resulting energy cost, initial investment, net present cost (NPC) and payback period. The findings of this research study aim to assist different stakeholders, such as the community and potential microgrid owner and operators to understand the potential benefits and costs of enhanced supply reliability with the microgrid in different configurations.
