摘要
Wound dressing is essential to support tissue healing, providing a physical barrier between the wound and the external environment, preventing further damage or infection. In this study, naproxen-loaded alginate/hydroxyapatite composite films were produced by the continuous casting method, with copper as crosslinking agent. The films presented suitable mechanical properties for application as wound dressings, as well as satisfactory water retention capacity and permeability to water vapor. Hydroxyapatite interacted with the alginate and the ceramic was homogenously distributed in the polymer matrix. In vitro tests revealed that copper was released from the films, providing antimicrobial activity of the films against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. In addition, naproxen, an anti-inflammatory drug, was also continuously released from the composite films. The findings indicated that naproxen-loaded alginate composite films are highly suitable for application as wound dressings with antimicrobial properties and local delivery of anti-inflammatory drug, contributing to tissue healing and regeneration.
