There has been an unprecedented rise in global Mpox infections (previously called Monkeypox), with 90,656 confirmed cases recorded in 115 countries (164 cases in Australia) as of 13 October 2023.1,2 In response, Mpox was declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization from May 2022 to May 2023.3,4 There has been a progressive decline in infections since August 2022, but clinical and laboratory services need to be prepared and anticipate further cases, particularly in at-risk groups.
