Real-Time Performance of Bursty Traffic in Hidden Node Problem.

Wired communication has traditionally been standard in the manufacturing industry, where real-time communication is essential. However, as the Internet of Things (IoT) spreads, wireless communication is expected to become more standard. In the manufacturing industry, real-time communication is crucial because here it refers not to minor delays but to adherence to such specific constraints as timely and accurate processing of events within a given timeframe. Fluctuations in packet arrival times can also impact a system’s operation. If a wireless network is installed without adequate network management, communications can experience degradation due to a hidden node problem. We previously studied slicing wireless resources by time and bandwidth to achieve a desired quality in real-time communication. In this study, we evaluate the influences of bandwidth slicing on intermittent traffic in hidden node problem scenarios through experiments and simulations. Our evaluation results show that adjusting bandwidth slicing effectively mitigates jitter variations.
