Testbed Set-up for Underwater Acoustic Communication and Networks

Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network (UASN) is a tool to have continuous, real-time and synoptic sampling of the ocean. UASN can be used in various applications such as ocean environmental monitoring. Monitoring marine ecosystem, Undersea exploration, assisted navigation, tactical surveillance and so on. These networks may consist of multiple static nodes deployed at different depths, along with underwater instruments/vehicles communicating with each other using acoustic links. Though the preferred carrier for underwater communication is acoustic, it comes with its challenges. In this demonstration, we will showcase the test-bed implementation of underwater acoustic communication using transducer and hydrophones. Also, the multi-hop network demonstration will be shown using oceanographic sensors and underwater modems.
