Framework and Engineering Applications of Residential Air Conditioning for Participation in Demand Response

When the electricity consumption peak period in summer, the load characteristics of the power grid deteriorate continuously, and the phenomenon of electricity shortage occurs frequently. As one of the main causes of power shortage phenomenon, the load share of air conditioning load in the peak period increases year by year. The study and rational development of the structure of air-conditioning load aggregation in demand response can not only effectively help reduce the peak load, but also reduce the construction cost of the power grid. In this context, this paper proposes a framework for household air conditioners to participate in demand response with demand response agency, air-conditioning load aggregation platform, and air-conditioning users as the main bodies. The relationship between the three bodies in the demand response execution process in the architecture is sorted out, and the user incentive package design part of the architecture is sorted out. After that, the idea of hardware and software system design adapted to the framework is provided and the system is explained. Finally, a demand response demonstration project of international students' flats in Lingang Campus of Shanghai University of Electric Power, China, is used to carry out a drill of demand response, which demonstrates the practical application of the framework for the participation of household air-conditioners in demand response.
