Miniature Fiber-optic Fabry-Perot Sensor for Rapid DNA Detection in Biological Solutions

Optical fiber biosensors have achieved high sensitivity but often involve complex fabrication processes, leading to increased production costs and practical challenges. Addressing these limitations, this paper introduces a miniaturized fiber-optic Fabry-Perot (FP) biosensor, distinguished by its straightforward structure, rapid measurement capabilities, and reusability without compromising the high sensitivity inherent to optical fiber biosensors. The study validates the biosensor’s biological functionalization through a comparative analysis with conventional fluorescence detection techniques. The results demonstrate the biosensor’s proficiency in rapidly detecting 1 μM target single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) solutions at room temperature, achieving a significant wavelength shift of 1.1 nm within just 6 minutes. Additionally, the reusability of the biosensor is a notable feature, setting it apart from other models and highlighting its potential for broad practical applications.
