The Paradigm Shift in Anaphylaxis Management Cannot Occur Without Changing Minds

The paradigm shift in anaphylaxis management was fomented by the recent SARS-CoV-2 global pandemic. These recent uncertain times forced all of us to reconsider if, when, and why we should visit the emergency department or hospital. We suddenly had to weigh the risks of exposure to a potentially deadly virus (particularly before the availability of vaccines) with the necessity for urgent evaluation and treatment of various symptoms and conditions. Within our specialty, this prompted several experts to critically evaluate the evidence surrounding anaphylaxis management and whether our patients truly needed to go to the emergency department after receiving epinephrine.
