Austrian syndrome: A deadly clinical triad

Introduction > Streptococcus pneumoniae is the most common bacterium associated with pneumonia and meningitis in adults. Simultaneous organ infection is possible, posing a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. We report and discuss a case of Austrian syndrome. Observation > A 53 -year -old man was admitted to the hospital with fever and altered mental status. A lumbar puncture revealed a purulent fluid positive for Streptococcus pneumoniae. Despite appropriate antibiotic treatment, the patient's hemodynamic status deteriorated. Cardiac
