Isolation Enhancement Based on Metasurface for Dual-Band E/H-plane Coupled Antenna Array

A dual-band metasurface superstrate consisting of two square ring slots with specific permittivity and permeability product is proposed in this paper for decoupling a compact dualband E/H-plane coupled antenna array. The dual-band metasurface can achieve high isolation enhancement between elements by suppressing surface waves. To demonstrate the method, E-plane and H-plane coupled antenna arrays loading the dual-band metasurface are designed, fabricated and measured separately. The measurement results indicate that the mutual coupling of the antenna arrays can be decreased by more than 27 dB and 20 dB at 3.5 GHz and 5.2 GHz respectively after loading the proposed metasurface.
