Circumferential Pulmonary Ossification from Lung Extra-Skeletal Osteosarcoma with Mediastinal Shift

Primary extra-skeletal osteosarcoma of the lung is exceedingly rare and associated with a poor prognosis. We present a patient with circumferential pulmonary ossification secondary to lung extra-skeletal osteosarcoma with compressive mediastinal shift who underwent an extra-pleural pneumonectomy that led to resolution of symptoms. This case offers a novel approach to the operative management for primary thoracic osteosarcoma, suggesting that even patients with advanced disease may be surgical candidates, particularly for symptom relief.
