Digital Speech Recognition in Patients after Laryngectomy – A Prospective Controlled Study to Assess the Success of Therapy

Introduction Laryngectomy with voice rehabilitation is an established standard therapy for advanced laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinomas. Although a uniform assessment of the success of treatment with regard to voice rehabilitation is desirable, it has so far been limited to subjective assessments of speech intelligibility. The present study aims to establish an objective and comparable examination of speech intelligibility using digital speech recognition software.
