Enhancing THz Antenna Characterization Precision in WR-1.5 Band using Vacuum Waveguide Flange

A Measurement fixture for free-space characterization of dielectric resonator antennas up to the THz frequency range is presented. By using a modified waveguide flange with vacuum channels, environmental influences in the half-space of the antenna are minimized. The concept is verified by characterizing a dielectric resonator antenna in the WR-1.5 frequency band. S-parameters of the vacuum flange are measured to perform a de-embedding of the RF losses of the holder.
