A Novel Radial Chip for Collection of Exhaled Breath to Detect Covid-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused enormous difficulty in life and economic impact. Rapid detection of COVID-19 is critical for curbing SARS-CoV-2 infection. This paper reports a novel radial chip within a breath collection tool for directly collecting exhaled breath. Carbonyl compounds in exhaled breath are captured by oximation reactions in the radial chip. The reacted adducts are eluted with methanol and acetic acid and analyzed by GC-MS. Five features from the breath analysis were identified significantly different between COVID-19 positive and negative subjects.
