First Records of the Flammulated Owl (psiloscops Flammeolus) for the State of Baja California, Mexico

We report the first records of the Flammulated Owl (Psiloscops flammeolus) in the state of Baja California, Mexico, on the basis of a specimen collected in desert habitat in the town of Bahia de Los Angeles (elevation 33 m asl) on 13 October 2002, and an audio recording of a vocalization made in the Sierra San Pedro Martir National Park on 30 September 2020 (elevation 2440 m asl). It is probable that the specimen from Bahia de Los Angeles represents an accidental record of P. f. idahoensis during migration, while the record of the Sierra Pedro Martir is an extension of the Southern California (USA) breeding population.
