Recently, solid-state lithium batteries (SSLBs) employing solid electrolytes (SEs) have garnered significant attention as a promising next-generation energy storage technology. Their exceptional qualities, including increased safety, high energy density, prolonged cycle life, impressive rate performance, and a wide operating temperature range, have earned them acclaim. Despite these advantages, several obstacles still hinder their widespread adoption. This review focuses on the lithium-ion conductors and their complex ion conduction mechanisms in SSLBs, offering insights into the challenges and potential solutions. The transition from conventional liquid electrolytes to solid-state ones marks a groundbreaking advancement in SSLB technology, offering benefits such as enhanced safety, higher energy density, and extended longevity. Strategies to capitalize on these advantages are explored in detail. Additionally, the review provides a comprehensive examination of governmental regulations and the latest industrialization techniques adopted by global SSLB manufacturers, highlighting key developments in the field of energy storage.
