BACKGROUND:Conflicting results on the association of the Val66Met polymorphism in the BDNF gene with anxiety-related disorders are observed from previous studies and meta-analyses. We performed an updated meta-analysis to obtain more precise estimates and add additional analyses not performed by previous reviews. METHODS:Using combinations of various key terms, articles in PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science, written in English were collected until October 31, 2024. Data were extracted independently by two authors and analyzed using Review Manager 5.4. RESULTS:Fifteen studies that are compliant with the HWE, providing a total of 14,184 participants were included in this meta-analysis after applying predefined inclusion/exclusion criteria based on study design, DSM-based diagnosis, and availability of genotype counts. Most pooled models demonstrated low to moderate heterogeneity with significant associations in the recessive model only. In the subgroup analysis, a significant effect was observed in the PD-uncategorized cohort. The Met/Met genotype demonstrated a suggestive association with increased susceptibility to panic disorder. CONCLUSION:Our updated meta-analysis suggests that the Met/Met genotype of the BDNF Val66Met polymorphism may increase susceptibility to PD under a recessive genetic model; however, this evidence remains preliminary.
Background: Nursing education faces the challenge of preparing graduates for the complex and unpredictable realities of healthcare systems. Traditional curricula that separate cognitive, emotional, and systems competencies often fail to equip learners for the interconnected demands of modern practice. Major Points: This paper presents the concept of the Nurse as Emotional Critical-System Thinker (ECST)-a professional who integrates emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and systems thinking as inseparable components of nursing judgment. Drawing on evidence from nursing education and practice, the framework outlines the key attributes, antecedents, and outcomes of this integrated role while offering strategies such as reflective practice, simulation, and systems-based pedagogy to cultivate ECST competencies. Implications: Integrating ECST into nursing curricula enhances holistic decision-making and fosters safer, more compassionate, and system-responsive care. Conclusions: The ECST model redefines nurses as emotionally aware, analytically skilled, and system-savvy professionals capable of shaping adaptive and empathetic healthcare environments. Despite the importance of apologies in repairing interpersonal conflict and restoring relational harmony, limited empirical research has examined whether apology proclivity and perceived apology sincerity predict romantic relationship satisfaction among Filipino young adults. This study investigated the predictive roles of apology proclivity and perceived apology sincerity in predicting romantic relationship satisfaction among 418 Filipino young adults aged 21–35 years who were in committed romantic relationships. A quantitative, correlational-predictive research design was employed using the Proclivity to Apologize Measure (PAM), the Perceived Apologizer Sincerity measure, and the Couples Satisfaction Index (CSI-16). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Spearman’s rho, and multiple linear regression with heteroskedasticity-consistent (HC3) robust standard errors. The respondents obtained a mean score of 65.70 (SD = 12.90) in relationship satisfaction, a mean score of 5.89 (SD = 1.08) in apology proclivity, and a mean score of 74 (SD = 11.60) in perceived apology sincerity. Relationship satisfaction was positively correlated with apology proclivity (ρ = .47, p < .001) and perceived apology sincerity (ρ = .62, p < .001), while apology proclivity was also positively correlated with perceived apology sincerity (ρ = .44, p < .001). A multiple linear regression analysis revealed that apology proclivity (β = .12, p = .031) and perceived apology sincerity (β = .70, p < .001) significantly predicted relationship satisfaction, with the model explaining 57.0% of the variance (R² = .570). Perceived apology sincerity emerged as the stronger predictor of relationship satisfaction.
