Bangabasi College is a Kolkata-based liberal arts, commerce and sciences college. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses of the University of Calcutta. It was founded by Girish Chandra Bose, an educationist, social reformer and agriculturist, in 1887. It was the first nationalist college. It played a major role in Disobedience Movement of 1930 and sacrifice of Shri Jatindra Nath Das, an undergraduate student of the college The college celebrated its 125th anniversary from November 2011 to October 2012. It has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council of India (NAAC) with "B+" certificate.
Objective: Present study delineates to explore the relation of actual body weight and body self-image perception among tribal adolescent girls and boys. Materials and methods: This cross sectional study is conducted at Purulia district of West Bengal. A total number of 395 Santal adolescent (Girls: 181; Boys: 214); aged 1418 years are recruited for the current study. Structured questionnaire is used to access data on body image and body weight perception. Height and weight are taken for estimation of Body Mass Index. Results: More overweight female participants regarded themselves as normal. Considerable section of overweight male participants perceived their own body weight as both overweight and normal. Overall Appearance Evaluation (OAE) score is significantly more in male overweight. Overweight female and male participants scored highest for Fatness Evaluation (FE) Scale. Height Dissatisfaction (HD) Score is significantly greater among male overweight participants. Drive for Thinness (DT) and Body Dissatisfaction (BD) score both are significantly more among male underweight participants. Multivariate Analyses of variance (MANOVA) find BMI of female and male participants have statistical significant effect on various body self-image perception scores. Conclusion: Barring overweight participants faulty body weight perception is absent in present study participants. Weight management behaviours are not prevalent among them. They belong from lower socio-economic background and have less media exposure. All these might be the reason of their nonspecific dietary intake and practices.
Two new polymeric complexes of Ni(II), trans-{[Ni(en)2(dca)]& sdot;(dca)& sdot;H2O}n (1) and cis-{[Ni(en)2(dca)]& sdot;NO3}n (2) has been synthesized by reacting the nickel nitrate, ethylenediamine (en) and sodium dicyanamide {Na(dca)} in methanol-water medium. Structural analysis shows that both the complexes are 1D polymers, formed by linking the Ni(en)2 units through the mu 1,5-dicyanamido bridge. In complex 1, two bridging dca- anions coordinate with Ni (II) with respect to trans with each other whereas in complex 2, two dca- anions coordinate with Ni (II) with respect to cis with each other. Both the 1D polymers are connected by hydrogen bonding interactions to form a 3D supramolecular structure. Theoretical analysis shows that complex 1 is more stable than complex 2. The antimicrobial properties of complexes 1 & 2 have been investigated against E. coli, a gram-negative bacterium and B. subtilis, a gram-positive bacterium; they show positive inhibition activities. In the electrical studies, direct current (dc) measurements on the copper/complex (1 or 2)/copper M-S-M planar structure corroborates a definite development in the device current with applied bias, ranging between -2 V and +2 V. Moreover, in the ac analyses, both the Cu/1/Cu and Cu/2/Cu devices have shown decreasing trend in frequency dependent zero bias capacitance.
A new record of a rare paper shell, tellinid bivalve, Hanleyanus vestalioides (Yokoyama, 1920), is reported for the first time from Sundarbans, West Bengal, India. After comparing with the type illustration and malacological collections present in the National Zoological Collections of the Zoological Survey of India, it revealed the species was found to be a new record to India. The shell compressed, thin, inequilateral, posterior side short than the anterior, anterior part rounded and broader going over gradually on one side into the sloping dorsal margin and on the other into the broadly arcuate ventral margin, posterior broader with obliquely truncate with characteristic Hanlayanus notch, making an obtuse angle with the gradually sloping dorsal margin as well as with the ascending ventral margin. This species earlier was reported from Japan and some parts of Southeast Asia; however, it had not been recorded so far from Indian waters. Specimens were obtained and examined for their taxonomic identity. This study has information on taxonomy, morphology, habitat and distribution. The finding significantly expands the distribution of H. vestalioides, and may also shed light on the biodiversity of the Sundarbans.
In every part of this world, there is gender discrimination between men and women. Society thinks that gender discrimination is wired into biology and expects some ideal qualities from men and women. In this way, men and women are situated in different societal positions. For this very reason, gender discrimination is considered as created by society. According to feminists, gender discrimination is expressed in society mainly in three ways. Firstly, in daily life, secondly, in patriarchy, and finally, in the theoretical sphere, known as androcentrism. Mainstream ethics is based on rationality, neutrality, impartiality, objectivity, and universality, but feminists note that there is hidden gender politics in making a neutral perspective of mainstream ethics. In mainstream theory, all the gendered characteristics of men become the ideal qualities of humans in disguise of neutrality, while all the attributes of women remain absent. According to feminist thinkers, mature moral thought looks at the complexities within the various dimensions of human feelings, emotions, and experiences, making the question of emotions a central concept to moral education. Such ethics developed by feminists are called care ethics. Finally, some feminists assert that although care- and justice-based mainstream ethics provide different frameworks for morality, neither is complete without the other. Therefore, if there is a harmonious coexistence between the two, it will probably represent an ethics with maturity.
Goods and Services Tax was implemented to replace several central and state taxes. GST 2.0 simplified the indirect tax structure more than GST 1.0. GST 1.0 was based on four slabs i.e. 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. GST 2.0 is based on three slabs i.e. 5%, 18% and 40%. GST 2.0 has reduced rates on many items to enhance the economic growth of India. GST 2.0 has significant impact on several sectors, such as insurance sector, health sector, leather sector handicraft sector, education sector. Small businesses face difficulties to comply with rules and regulations of GST. GST 2.0 emphasize on digitization more than GST 1.0. GST 2.0 is more consumer oriented than GST 1.0. The study is based on primary data and secondary data. Primary data has been collected from Kolkata city in West Bengal. New GST reforms is consumer friendly as the rates have been reduced for the benefit of the consumers. In this paper, an attempt has been made to find out various aspects of GST.
