Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory, hyperproliferative skin disease. It is an autoimmune condition that causes patients significant distress due to its recurrent episodes. The patient in this case report presented with a complaint of a shiny, scaly, silvery eruption accompanied by itching, diagnosed as psoriasis, for 15 years. After experiencing an unsatisfactory outcome with modern medicine, the patient turned to homoeopathic treatment. After a detailed case assessment and repertorisation, Mezereum 30C was initially prescribed as a single dose. Subsequently, the patient showed improvement during follow-up visits. The appropriate medication was then administered based on the totality of the symptoms, until the patient was symptom-free at his last visit. The causal association of clinical outcome to the homoeopathic treatment was evaluated using the Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homoeopathy (MONARCH) tool. Significant improvement was found in the psoriatic skin affections, with photographic evidence. The MONARCH score (+9) suggested that the clinical improvement was likely attributable to the homoeopathic treatment. The present case report suggests the usefulness of homoeopathic remedies in the treatment of psoriasis, but further clinical trials are required to validate its results and provide further data.
Introduction: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) stands as a prevalent and diverse endocrine disorder affecting women in their reproductive years. It manifests through various clinical symptoms such as oligo-anovulation, polycystic ovaries, and symptoms due to elevated serum androgen levels. Amidst the frequent side effects and limited long-term efficacy of conventional treatments, there is a growing interest in complementary therapies that can alleviate PCOS symptoms without adverse impacts. Homoeopathy, known for its individualised approach and success in treating various conditions, including PCOS, emerges as a hopeful solution. This case report aims to showcase the favourable results attained through individualised homoeopathic treatment not only in the PCOS symptoms but also the overall complaints of the patient. Case summary: A 25-year-old female visited the outpatient department of The Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, West Bengal, India, with complaints of irregular and scanty menstrual cycles for the past two years. She was diagnosed with PCOS based on both clinical symptoms and ultrasonographic findings. An individualised homoeopathic remedy, Calcarea carbonica, was prescribed in fifty millesimal (LM) potency, taking into consideration the symptoms of both particular and general spheres. Follow-ups revealed gradual improvement. The remarkable clinical progress, along with a score of (+10) on the Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homeopathy (MONARCH) tool, highlights the usefulness of individualised homoeopathic medicine in improving the symptoms of PCOS.
Upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) are a significant global concern. Work, school performance, productivity, and economic burden are linked to URTI. These need to be taken care of in time, as they can lead to various complications. To date, there have been no approved specific and safe therapies for URTIs. Hence, this research project aimed at testing the efficacy of individualized homeopathic medicines in URTIs using Kent’s repertoire. An open-label, single-arm, experimental, prospective, non-randomized, non-controlled, before-and-after comparison study was done on 52 participants suffering from URTIs using Kent’s repertory. Institutional ethical clearance was obtained; then, 58 consenting patients were enrolled after screening of 69 patients by eligibility criteria and were allocated to classical homeopathic treatment. Six cases were dropouts; 52 cases were regular. Outcome measures were assessed and analysed with the Wisconsin Upper Respiratory Symptom Survey-21 (WURSS-21) questionnaire. After homeopathic treatment, the WURSS-21 questionnaire score mean was gradually reduced. At baseline, the WURSS-21 questionnaire total score mean was 65.56 (standard deviation [SD] ± 8.15); at the first follow-up, the mean was 17.10 (SD ± 15.46); at the second follow-up, the mean was 7.23 (SD ± 12.30); and at the third follow-up, the mean was 2.58 (SD ± 6.90). Friedman’s analysis of variance by rank test showed a significant result, where the χ2r statistic is 147.1904 for the WURSS-21 total score at the level of significance 0.05 in a two-tailed hypothesis. Showing that individualized homeopathic medicines are efficacious in the treatment of URTIs. Overall, after treatment with individualized homeopathic medicines, 48 patients improved, 4 patients did not improve, and 8 patients dropped out of the study. No adverse effects and/or complications were observed. The most commonly used remedies are Rhus toxicodendron, Bryonia alba, Belladonna, etc. Data suggest that individualized homeopathic treatment is useful for patients suffering from URTIs. The practical applicability of Kent’s repertory in the treatment of URTIs is observed.
