BACKGROUND: Panniculopathic-edematous-fibro-sclerosis (PEFS), or cellulite or gynoid lipodystrophy, represents a pathological imperfection that affects millions of women (and in rare cases, men) due to various contributing factors, including diet and sedentary lifestyle. It generates consequent disturbances to capillary circulation and venous and lymphatic return as well as a problematic relationship between patients with the resulting imperfection, which can cause disturbances in the psychosocial sphere of those suffering from it.METHODS: This multicenter observational study was performed with a relatively new Medical Device (MD) based on a poly-amino acid solution (Alidya™) used with mesotherapy on a sample of 36 people (F/M ratio = 35/1). The measurements were taken after an initial interview and medical examination (T0) and after 4 (T1), 8 (T2), and 12 (Tf) weeks of treatment.RESULTS: At the T0 and Tf points, measures of the circumference were collected at the waist, hips, and thighs (crf1, crf2, and crf3). The study showed good therapeutic success regarding the difference between cfr1, crf2, and cfr3 pre- and post-treatments. Another good result of the treatment is a visible reduction in the so-called “orange peel” experienced by the patients and an average weight loss of 1.48 kg.CONCLUSIONS: The study showed the objective effectiveness of the treatment based on clinical data on the reduction of edema and skin nodules due to PEFS and subjective (clinician’s perception and patient satisfaction) up to 12 weeks after the first therapy session.
Eugenio Corti (1921–2014), marked by a precocious vocation as a writer, focuses on communism as the major danger of the twentieth century. Aiming to see by himself the ongoing experiment of the Soviet communism, he answered the call to arms by asking to be sent to the eastern front – despite disapproving the war of the German allies against Russia. While in Ukraine, he gets aware of the communist inhumanity and, still alive after the retreat, he devotes himself to the service of truth. He denounces the connivance of the western culture with the massacres provoked by the communist ideology. The tragedy Processo e morte di Stalin (1962) originates from a long study of the theory and praxis of the communism in the Soviet Union, but also in China and Indochina. In this work, the Georgian dictator, forced by a conspiracy lead by Politburo members, analyzes the real communism; in the end, he demonstrates the practical impossibility of the ideal society of the “new mankind”, which this ideology longed for. Eugenio Corti was born on 21 January 1921, the same day when the history of Communist Party of Italy began after the split of the Italian Socialist Party: this coincidence of the dates is emblematic of the approach, both historical and transcendent, with which the Author will investigate the origin and the results of the communist experiment, denouncing the horrors perpetrated in the implementation of Marxist theories. Following this existential vocation, after a diary of his memories of the retreat from the Eastern front and after a novel about his experience in the regular army during the war of liberation of Italy from the German army, he dedicated himself to a long and consistent study of communist ideology. Alongside the works of Marx, Stalin and Lenin, he analyzed a large amount of studies on the philosophical roots of communism, including the accredited work of Isaac Deutscher on Stalin. In Corti’s view, Stalin addresses the failure of this utopian project to the unchangeability of the nature and of the human heart. By confuting the theses of marxism-leninism on the basis of reality, Corti shows that the evil is not found in unbalanced class relations, but in the human heart which, at the same time, constitutes the extreme defense of the universal human values.
One of the aims of Infravation FASSTbridge (Fast and effective Solution for the Strengthening of existing steel bridges) project is to develop a specific reinforcement system dedicated to the preventive fatigue reinforcement of steel bridges. The proposed system relies on the use of an adhesively bonded composite plate. The adhesive has been specifically formulated within the project to respect the required fulfillments of the studied application. The communication will first give insight of the required properties of the adhesive, the composite plate, and the overall system. Based on these requirements and existing literature and standards on the topic, the chosen experimental plan will be described. It will concern investigations on the adhesive before curing, the adhesive after curing, the composite plate and the whole reinforcing system. Both short term and durability investigations are being considered. This experimental plan is currently carried out by the different partners implied within the projects and first results will be presented, especially regarding the properties of the adhesive and the composite plate and first results obtained on assembly.
