Mitchell School is a public school in Mitchell in the U.S. state of Oregon with an enrollment of about 70 students. The K–12 school is the only school in the Mitchell School District.Mitchell School operates a boarding residence for up to 20 students in grades 9 through 12. These students come from all over the world as well as all over Oregon. During the 2013–2014 school year, they included students from Thailand, Hong Kong, Germany, Mexico and Spain..

Objective: Tampa Bay Area is an estuary and thus has varying levels of salinity, so it has become imperative to determine whether or not the leading combat strategy (clay flocculation) to HABs is effective under these differing conditions. Method: an experiment was conducted that measured the settling rates of Kaolin clay at varying levels of salinity (0, 17.5, 30, and 45 Parts Per Thousand) within the range of Karenia Brevis. Results: There is no statistically significant difference between the settling rates of Kaolin clay within the range of tolerance of K. Brevis, and therefore can be used to combat K. Brevis blooms in Tampa Bay regardless of salinity.
Food allergies can be defined as having physical reaction(s) to any consumed substance, including anaphylaxis, hives, and nausea. Although many adolescents have food allergies, it was not clear how their peers felt about it or if their awareness impacted their empathy levels. Previous research primarily focused on the scientific aspects of food allergies and how they impact those who possess them. Thus, a study was conducted based off the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), an established questionnaire that measures empathy, to determine empathy levels among adolescents about their peers’ food allergies across four subscales: Perspective-Taking (PD), Fantasy (FS), Empathic Concern (EC), and Personal Distress (PD). The questions were altered to measure only empathy levels regarding allergies and were divided into two sections so that empathy was measured before and after factual allergy information was presented to the participants. The survey was distributed among classrooms and social media platforms to adolescents ages 14-19. The responses indicate overall empathy scores experienced a slight decrease from 3.375 to 3 (neutral) after the information was presented. However, when a Chi-square analysis was conducted, and 0.357 < 7.815 (critical value), indicating the decrease was not significant. The findings demonstrate that a paragraph of information is not sufficient as it does not stimulate a significant change in empathy among adolescents regarding their peers’ food allergies. Further studies regarding the extent of external empathy influences should be conducted to determine if more exposure is needed to increase empathy.
Abstract Objective: To test the absorbance of casein protein by comparing two infant feeding methods: formula and breastmilk, in a healthy six-month-old infant. Hypothesis: Casein protein will be better absorbed through the feeding of breastmilk in a healthy six-month-old infant. Methods: Conducted an in vitro experiment testing casein absorbance using pepsin to simulate an infant’s stomach environment and a colorimeter test to get absorbance measurements. Result: There is a statistically insignificant amount of evidence that casein protein is better absorbed through the feeding of breastmilk and therefore, breastmilk can be used interchangeably with infant formula in strict regards to casein supplementation. Key Terms: Casein to whey ratio, colorimeter, pepsin, nutritional tailoring, absorbance, infant formula, breastmilk
Objective: To test the extent to which beetroot and cabbage-based strips can indicate pH changes in comparison to litmus strips. Hypothesis: Beetroot and Cabbage will be able to indicate whether a drink has been drugged because the label will change colors as the pH level changes to the same extent that the litmus strips can. Method: An experimental design involving making beetroot and cabbage-based strips using coffee-filter paper and then testing the vegetable-based strips and litmus strips in a variety of liquids. Result: Beetroot and cabbage-based strips are able to accurately indicate a change in pH level in regard to drink spiking, however, litmus strips are more reliable and evident in their change in color.
