Cavite State University (CvSU; Filipino: Pamantasang Pampamahalaan ng Cavite) is the premier university of the province of Cavite in the Philippines. Its 70-hectare (170-acre) main campus, known as the Don Severino delas Alas Campus, is located in the Municipality of Indang, Cavite about 60 km (37 mi) southwest of Manila. The educational institution has ten other campuses spread all over the province. The school was established initially as an intermediate school by the Thomasites, a group of American teachers brought by the United States during the early part of the American colonial period to revamp the system of education in the country. By 1964, the school has grown into a college known as the Don Severino Agricultural College (DSAC). It became a university on January 22, 1998, and was renamed as the Cavite State University. The Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) recently conferred the award to Cavite State University (CvSU) as top performing state university during the annual national conference held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, Cebu City, 7 – 9 March. In 2016, CvSU was also recognized as one of the top ten performing State Universities and Colleges in accreditation, capturing the rank 7 spot. The university is also one of the top three performing schools in the criminology program in the country.Since then, the university has grown offering close to 100 curricular programs in the undergraduate and graduate levels. It has more than 25,000 students and 1,200 faculty and staff from all eleven campuses.
Heteronaias Needham & Gyger, 1937 is a monotypic genus represented solely by Heteronaias heterodoxa (Selys, 1878), a poorly documented corduliid. Based on reared specimens from Luzon, Philippines, we provide a detailed larval description, notes on adult morphology, and distributional data. Adult characters, particularly the vesica spermalis of male and female terminalia, are redescribed and illustrated. The larva is distinguished by a flattened body, 9-13 premental setae, 8-11 palpal setae, a poorly developed ligula, middorsal protuberances on abdominal segments 6-10, and a distinct episternal apophysis. Comparative analysis with Asian corduliid genera highlights diagnostic larval features valuable for taxonomy and phylogenetic studies. Larvae inhabit shaded forest streams and emerge on rock surfaces, showing rheophilic adaptations comparable to those of Zygonyx Selys in Hagen, 1867 (Libellulidae). Distributional records confirm that H. heterodoxa is endemic to the Philippines.
The declining productivity of the Philippine coffee industry has been linked not only to farm-level production constraints but also to inefficiencies in post-harvest and processing systems. This study develops and validates a technology management framework for coffee post-harvest and processing systems based on empirical evidence gathered from local coffee farmers in Batangas and Cavite. Using a descriptive research design, survey data from 387 registered coffee farmers were analyzed through frequency analysis, Pareto analysis, affinity and interrelationship diagrams, SWOT analysis, independent-sample t-tests, and cost-benefit analysis. Results show that insufficient machineries and technologies (72.21%) constitute the most critical bottleneck in coffee post-harvest operations, followed by lack of capital, pests and diseases, manpower shortages, and climatic variability. Statistical and economic analyses confirm that while mechanized technologies incur higher initial costs, they generate significantly higher income and profit across hulling, sorting, roasting, and grinding processes. Integrating these findings, a comprehensive coffee post-harvest and processing technology management framework is proposed, supported by quality function deployment, value chain analysis, sustainability planning, and a technology roadmap. The framework provides a systems-based approach to technology adoption, transfer, and sustainability, offering policy and institutional guidance toward a profitable and resilient coffee industry in the Philippines.
The study focused on addressing existing gaps in the literature by examining the extent of perceived factors that influence the tax compliance of micro food businesses in selected areas of Cavite. It aimed to (1) determine the business profile of micro food businesses in selected areas of Cavite, (2) identify the level of perception of each of the perceived factors such as tax literacy and awareness, enforcement of tax laws, tax modernization, perception of the tax system, and cost of compliance, (3) examine the level of tax compliance, and (4) assess the effect of perceived factors on tax compliance of the participants. In this quantitative study, descriptive and explanatory research designs were used. The study utilized survey questionnaire answerable using a four-point Likert scale. A sample size of 385 was obtained using a proportionate stratified sampling technique, descriptive statistics and regression analysis were applied to interpret the collected data. Level of tax compliance, showed an overall mean of 3.19 and a standard deviation of 0.64. The determinants of tax compliance among micro food businesses in Cavite found that tax literacy, perceived enforcement of tax laws, tax modernization, perception of tax system fairness, and cost of compliance positively affects compliance. Findings revealed that tax literacy and awareness, improved implementation and enforcement of tax laws, enhanced tax system modernization, and the financial and procedural efforts associated with taxation significantly influence tax compliance among micro food businesses.
This study aimed to determine the community’s disaster preparedness and response in the context of typhoons. A descriptive research design combining quantitative and qualitative approaches was employed. A self-constructed survey questionnaire and in-depth interviews served as the main instruments for data collection. Simple random sampling was used to select 152 respondents for the survey, while interviews involved five residents from high-risk areas and four experts, including the CDRRMO Division Chief, BFP Fire Marshall, and two barangay officials. Most respondents were aged 21–30, predominantly female, and had lived in Sitio Ibaba, Barangay Pallocan West, Batangas City, for ten years or more. Findings revealed that residents practiced pre-disaster preparations, such as charging flashlights and mobile phones and stocking essential food and medicine. In rescue and relief operations, respondents coordinated with authorities and assisted neighbors before, during, and after typhoon events. Communication was primarily through television, radio, and megaphones used by barangay officials. Residents assessed the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) services positively in terms of program implementation and response and readiness, with the only limitation being the availability of printed materials. Overall, the council provided effective support through training programs, seminars, sufficient rescue and evacuation equipment, and accessible emergency hotlines. To further enhance preparedness and response, the study proposes the development and distribution of printed materials tailored to the community. These findings highlight practical strategies for improving community resilience and emergency coordination during typhoons, offering evidence-based recommendations for local governments, disaster management agencies, and community leaders.
This study aimed to determine the Level of Reading Proficiency of Grade 7 Students through the Implementation of English Reading Program in Bucal National Integrated School (BNIS) in the Philippines. The researcher employed Quantitative design involving a total of 494 Grade 7 students across eleven (11) sections. Data gathered using validated pre-test and post-test standardized reading comprehension assessments. The findings indicated a successful intervention: all students demonstrated the capability to read and comprehend, with no non-readers remaining in the post-test. The use of contextualized learning materials successfully indicated a move towards improvement in reading comprehension. This research provides evidence-based results demonstrating the program’s effectiveness, contributing significantly to school development and better academic outcomes. Overall, the study informs educational stakeholders about the importance of reading comprehension to improve the academic outcomes and overall well-being of Grade 7 students.
