Official Opposition (85)Other Opposition (57)The Hellenic Parliament (Greek: Ελληνικό Κοινοβούλιο, romanized: Elliniko Kinovoulio; or Βουλή των Ελλήνων, Voulí ton Ellínon, 'Boule of the Hellenes'), also known as the Parliament of the Hellenes, the Hellenic Bouleterion or Greek Parliament, is the unicameral legislature of Greece, located in the Old Royal Palace, overlooking Syntagma Square in Athens. The parliament is the supreme democratic institution that represents the citizens through an elected body of Members of Parliament (MPs).It is a unicameral legislature of 300 members, elected for a four-year term. In 1844–1863 and 1927–1935, the parliament was bicameral with an upper house (the senate) and a lower house (the chamber of deputies), which retained the name Vouli. Several important Greek statesmen have served as the speaker of the Hellenic Parliament.
This paper employs a stochastic production frontier model with time-varying inefficiency to assess the performance and productivity growth of 9054 Greek firms from 1996 to 2017.Various forms of capital are incorporated, extending beyond physical capital and labor, to estimate productivity growth and disentangle its components.Our results indicate that, despite a significant decrease in productivity growth after 2007, it remains positive on average, albeit with notable variations among firms.These findings offer valuable insights to inform future policy decisions in Greece, which may have implications for other nations as well.
The article describes the evolution of an innovative legal interoperability laboratory within the National School of Public Administration and Local Government in Athens, Greece. While critically analysing its general scope, objectives and structure, the knowledge management perspective of an interoperable legal informatics solution for handling big open legal data is brought into focus. In the context of the laboratory, the use of Legislation Editing Open Software (LEOS), a legal informatics tool that has been developed as a European Union ISA2 solution, is highlighted. Different aspects of and lessons learned from the training of public administrators are discussed while assessing this operations support system for potential use as a web-based authoring tool by the Hellenic public service. The evaluation of both the laboratory and the tool was conducted based on expert surveys, and possible upgrades are discussed to make the training of public administration more efficient.
After much anticipation, the International Workshop of Scholars and Parliamentarians took place in Villa La Angostura, Argentina, from 7–8 April 2022. This report will first outline the general framework of the workshop’s organisation and implementation. It then describes the main areas of scientific debate, with a particular focus on the digital transformation of parliamentary institutions. Finally, the report outlines the main outcomes that, notably, seek to enhance parliamentarism through the development of an international culture of dialogue.
Abstract This is a report on the 15th Workshop of Parliamentary Scholars and Parliamentarians that took place over the weekend of 30–31 July 2022 in Wroxton, Oxfordshire, in the United Kingdom. Scores of scholars, practitioners, and Members of Parliament (mp s) from around the world gathered once again at the event’s remarkable venue, the Wroxton Abbey, for a two-day practical exchange on issues around parliamentary development and reforms. This time, the Workshop focussed on the state-of-play of and new concepts for strengthening public engagement in the democratic process. Moreover, the greater event constitutes a forum of international professional exchange between parliamentary practitioners and scholars and the sharing of best-practice, with the overall goal of promoting positive change and improvements to the efficiency, transparency, representation and therefore legitimacy of parliaments. The report captures the highlights, lessons-learned, and expectations from a memorable event that set the stage for further research and policy activities.
