Women play crucial roles in the emergence of societies worldwide, but due to customary barriers and traditional practices are neglected, leading to objectification and relegation to substitution for men, feeding, family care, domestic income generation responsibilities, with limited authority over natural resource management. The study analysed the level of involvement of rural women in natural resources management in the Basimukuma grouping. Data were collected from a sample of 246 participants from 7 villages, through questionnaires and focus group discussions. 68% of the surveyed were women with a primary education basis (39%), working daily as farmers (61.3%), aged 40.1±6.8. Factors such as duality of laws and customary practices, illiteracy, prejudices, stereotypes, lack of knowledge of legal instruments, and women’s natural inferiority complex, the sociological and cultural environment are barriers to rural women's participation and empowerment. The results show that women are active in agricultural fieldwork, spending (4.1 ± 1 .3) hours compared to men (1.4±0.5), for specific fields of operation in irrigation, tree cutting, and land clearing operations. Household income allocation decision is made by men (75.6%) while extraction of natural resources activities are women-led, spending an average of 2.8±0.3 hours compared to men (0.6±0.1). 84% of respondents recognise the under-representation of women in the decision-making process in natural resource management. In surveyed villages, there is a critically low proportion of women in the village council deciding on the exploitation of natural resources. Except for CBOs in ANANDA and MKELA, where 98% of members are women, the majority of decision-makers, agents and members are men in other villages. Actions should be taken to address the illiteracy burden, advocate for women's empowerment, quota insertion, and promote entitlement for women to full control resources they are tributary to. The study engaged with village councils, leaders, CBOs, women, and men, through focus groups and surveys to gather involvement insights from different perspectives.

2Influence De La Conception Des Hôpitaux Et De L’hygiène Environnementale Sur L’utilisation Des Services Dans Les Etablissements De Santé Primaires De La Zone De Santé De Kikula, 2024, RDC
Peti Richard Bwalya, Hendrick Lukuke Mbutshu, Much’apa Bienfait Mwarabu, Tony Kayembe, Kalombola Didier Chuy

    46. EXPÉRIENCE ET PERCEPTION DES ACTEURS DE SANTÉ SUR LES DÉTERMINANTS DE LA PRISE EN CHARGE DES ENFANTS D’ÂGE PRÉSCOLAIRE : ÉTUDE TRANSVERSALE DANS LA ZONE DE SANTÉ DE KIKWIT NORD EN RÉPUBLIQUE DÉMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO
MUWENGE MUMPE, GUY, MUKANDU BASUA BABINTU, LEYKA, LOFANDJOLA MASUMBUKU, JACQUES

The health of preschool-aged children remains a major public health priority, particularly in low- and middle-income countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Despite significant efforts by health authorities to improve the coverage and quality of pediatric services, child morbidity and mortality indicators remain alarming. In this context, understanding the experience and perception of healthcare providers regarding the determinants influencing the quality of care for preschool children is essential to guide interventions toward approaches that are better adapted to local realities. This study aims to explore the representations and lived experiences of health professionals concerning the factors influencing the management of children aged 0 to 5 in the Kikwit Nord health zone. The goal is to identify key levers for improving clinical practices, health policies, and community strategies in child health. A cross-sectional qualitative study was conducted among various health care providers, including nurses, physicians, and community health workers operating in several health facilities in Kikwit Nord. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and were analyzed thematically within an interpretive framework to capture the participants’ subjective perspectives. The findings reveal that the determinants of care for preschool children are multiple and interconnected. Institutional factors such as the shortage of qualified personnel, limited access to essential medicines, and poor service organization are frequently cited. Socioeconomic constraints, including household poverty and low parental education levels, further restrict access to care and treatment continuity. In addition, influential sociocultural representations—such as traditional beliefs about disease causes and care-seeking behaviors—play a major role (MUKEBA & TSHIBANDA, 2023). A lack of ongoing professional training and non-compliance with clinical protocols also emerged as recurrent barriers. Participants emphasized the need for improved interprofessional collaboration, stronger community advocacy, and greater family involvement in care processes. These elements are seen as essential to enhancing the quality and acceptability of health services for young children. This study highlights healthcare providers’ perceptions of the numerous challenges in managing preschool-aged children within a specific local context. It underscores the urgency of promoting integrated, culturally sensitive, and socially relevant strategies to improve access to care and enhance child health outcomes sustainably. Key recommendations include capacity-building for providers, better working conditions, family health education, and the integration of social determinants into public health policies.
