This article aims to delineate the underlying causality of gender violence, specifically the perseverance of rape as an institutional failure, in the particular spatio-temporality of France. The nonexistent levels of convictions for rape (0.6%), compared with the increase in reported rapes (a rape every 2.3 min, 1/2 women are survivors, 1/6 women entered sexuality through rape), forge a certain continuity with previous contexts in which rape was a crime against the honour of the family, rather than against the integrity of the victim. Rape is actively shaped by intersecting forms of violence. It is institutionalised because the authorities' response is first to induce such a failure of justice. The 'morphogenetic r & eacute;gulation' approach endows my reflection with meta-theoretical depth to observe how one can explain such systemic persistence. The findings call for urgent academic and policy attention in re-examining the entire training procedures for judicial officers.
By accounting for the role of reflexive agency in the persistence and transformation of capitalist systems, this paper examines how market-driven reforms created momentum for neoliberalization in Palestine after the signing of the Oslo Peace Accords in the early 1990s, leading to the intensification of neoliberalization after the political intradivision in 2007. To understand how neoliberalization unfolded, the paper draws on the variegated neoliberalization thesis. It supplements this with the 'morphogenetic r & eacute;gulation' (MR) approach, and its notion of reflexive conatus, which considers ideas in terms of 'self-explication' and 'adequacy' originating in the material. Through this lens, the paper investigates Palestinian agents' actions as they diachronically interacted with the structural constraints of the Oslo neoliberal peace paradigm as they mediated neoliberalization. Their actions were not merely shaped by internal and external pressures. Still, they were also strategically recalibrated to preserve their vested interests in the Palestinian Authority as a structure.
Recommender systems have become fundamental in modern society as they help navigate the vast amount of available data, enabling users to find information, products, or services more efficiently and personally. They directly impact how people consume data, goods, and resources. Recommender systems often lack fairness and diversity, resulting in unfair services and increased preference polarization. Solution: This work presents FaDeRS (Fairness and Depolarization in Recommender Systems), an approach aimed at increasing fairness and diversity in recommender systems. FaDeRS adjusts predictions through controlled perturbations and optimization to mitigate individual unfairness and polarization without modifying the input data. The research is related to socio-technical theory, addressing one of the socio-algorithmic problems, algorithmic discrimination. We consider a specific set of approaches to encode fair behaviors. The research applied a quantitative method with experimentation using two datasets in distinct contexts, implementing a post-processing algorithm based on the Simulated Annealing meta-heuristic. The proposed method demonstrated significant reductions in polarization (up to 78.64%) and individual unfairness (up to 33.97%), with only a small increase in the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), indicating an improvement in the socially desirable qualities of the systems without unduly sacrificing accuracy. Notably, FaDeRS consistently outperformed a relevant benchmark methodology across both evaluated datasets. The main contribution is a mechanism that balances personalization and fairness, simultaneously addressing polarization and individual unfairness from the items’ perspective, promoting a fairer and more diverse approach to recommendation.
Amid the biggest public health crisis of the century, the COVID-19 pandemic, social platforms amplified the spread of harmful narratives. In this context, this study explores how anti-vaccine communities operated on Telegram. By analyzing nearly 10 million messages from 779 channels and groups, and using machine learning to detect misinformation, harm potential, and toxicity, the results indicate recurring misinformation patterns, high engagement, and links between toxic content and virality. The study provides methodological contributions and insights for understanding and addressing informational disorder on messaging platforms.
