Contemporary businesses that aim for sustainable global supply chains (GSCs) through circular economy (CE) models has been a crucial topic of research and practice for addressing the climate change risks and resource scarcity. This study identifies and prioritizes the critical success factors (CSFs) for digitalization assisted CE for sustainability in GSCs using a modified multi criteria decision making technique, Grey Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL). Analysing the cause-and-effect relationships among 14 identified CSFs for digitization assisted CE in GSCs offers actionable insights for organizations and policymakers seeking to enhance sustainability efforts by navigating the complexities of integrating digitization and CE practices. The findings from the study reveal that process improvement and optimization through digitization and human centric sustainable operations towards CE as the highest ranked CSFs. The results suggest that managers shall invest in digital integration, prioritize transparency, and foster collaboration to create resilient and sustainable supply chain ecosystems and this will serve as the initial step towards the future digital transformations. This study provides a strategic roadmap for managers and policymakers aiming to integrate CE principles through digital transformation.
This study explores the critical role of flexible management practices in fostering frugal innovation using Generative AI (GenAI) in resource-constrained environments. Drawing on qualitative data from 13 social entrepreneurs, this study employs the Gioia method and triangulation to identify the following key themes: flexible management practices, frugal innovation, the critical role of GenAI, and structural enablers and barriers. The findings reveal that flexible management practices, combined with GenAI, enable resource-efficient innovation, while structural factors serve as key moderators in this process. This study proposes a conceptual model illustrating how these elements interact to drive cost-effective innovation. These contributions extend existing theories on innovation management and digital transformation, offering practical insights for managers and policymakers aiming to leverage AI for cost-effective and scalable impacts. The study establishes a foundation for future quantitative validation across diverse sectors and geographic contexts, advancing the understanding of how emerging technologies can be leveraged for inclusive development.
This study focuses on the management system for environmental safety in industrial regions. The authors have developed a concept for achieving sustainable environmental safety in industrial regions, as well as a hierarchy of preventive and protective technologies for eliminating environmental hazards and reducing environmental risks. They propose an approach for assessing the level of development of industrial regions by determining combinations of components of sustainable environmental safety. The relationship between environmental risk and the components of sustainable environmental safety is determined, enabling the formation of assessment indicators to establish the level of development of industrial regions. To develop the concept of sustainable environmental safety in industrial regions, the authors applied a systematic approach combining inductive and deductive scientific methods. To build a hierarchy of preventive and protective technologies, the researchers applied the principles of forming the Haddon matrix, which categorises various types of measures within two dimensions: before and after a dangerous environmental event (incident) occurs. The results obtained based on the level of development of industrial regions justify management decisions on selecting the most suitable protective technologies, taking into account the level of development of the components of sustainable environmental safety. What sets the proposed concept apart from existing ones is its alignment with the cycle of environmental protection technologies through the use of corrective measures and preventive and corrective actions in environmental management systems. The concept and hierarchy of preventive and protective technologies developed for environmental safety management systems in industrial regions will ensure increased efficiency and effectiveness. The concept and hierarchy of preventive and protective technologies will be used to inform management decisions on selecting the most suitable technologies for reducing environmental risk.
In the context of increasing industrial risks, the integration of historical experience into modern standards, the analysis of dangerous events and the investigation of their causes contribute to the improvement of the safety culture in organizations by identifying systemic shortcomings that affect the adoption of constructive management decisions. A retrospective look at the Kurenivka tragedy emphasizes the critical importance of transparency and information openness in crisis situations. The relevance of the proposed material lies in identifying the causes of past disasters, in particular the dam break in the Kurenivka district of Kyiv, in order to identify systemic failures in the safety management of economic facilities. The purpose of the article is to analyze the risks of the dam break in the Kurenivka district of Kyiv in the context of the requirements of the ISO 45001 standard, to study the relevant causes, which is of significant importance in the system of investigating accidents of a similar level and to find appropriate preventive solutions. The paper uses the method of scientific analysis with an emphasis on the systematic analysis of management and engineering practices through the prism of the requirements of the modern international standard ISO 45001:2018 (“Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems”) regarding the risk of a dam burst. It was found that critical inconsistencies in the context of the requirements of the ISO 45001 standard are the lack of leadership by senior management (section 5), superficial hazard identification and risk assessment (section 6), ignoring change management (section 8.1.3), formal monitoring (section 9) and ineffective incident investigation (section 10). The root causes of the tragedy also include the substitution of values, where the implementation of the production plan and ideological tasks were placed above people's lives, as well as an information vacuum and the lack of employee participation in the safety process. The scientific novelty lies in the methodological innovative synthesis of the analysis of a historical event with the tools of the modern ISO 45001:2018 standard, which opens up new prospects for the study, analysis of man-made disasters, the construction of algorithms for investigating such cases and the formation of sustainable safety systems. The practical value lies in the development of a dam breach risk model and recommendations for the formation of an organization's safety policy, which is focused on preserving human life and health
Purpose This paper aims to develop an asymmetric dual-system theory of acceptance and avoidance in mobile advertising. It explains why consumers may engage with mobile advertisements while simultaneously resisting their persuasive intent. Design/methodology/approach The paper adopts a conceptual theory-building approach and integrates literature on advertising engagement, consumer brand engagement, persuasion knowledge, psychological reactance, privacy, personalisation, intrusiveness and digital advertising avoidance. Findings The paper proposes that mobile advertising responses are governed by two co-existing regulatory systems. The engagement-based approach system facilitates attention, elaboration and interaction, whereas the threat-based avoidance system monitors perceived intrusiveness, privacy risk and autonomy loss. Threshold, strength and conversion asymmetries explain why engagement is necessary but insufficient for acceptance: threat-based regulation may interrupt engagement-to-acceptance conversion. The framework also distinguishes advertising engagement from consumer brand engagement, positioning the latter as a relational buffer that may facilitate but cannot guarantee acceptance. Research limitations/implications As a conceptual contribution, the framework requires empirical testing across platforms, cultures, regulatory environments and mobile-first ecosystems. Practical implications The framework cautions marketers against treating engagement metrics as proxies for acceptance. Mobile advertising strategies should balance relevance and personalisation with transparency, permission, user control and reduced intrusiveness. Originality/value The paper reframes mobile advertising persuasion as asymmetric co-regulation rather than linear progression from engagement to acceptance. It positions avoidance as an active regulatory outcome and explains why engagement and avoidance may coexist.
