The aim of the present study is to reveal the potential mediating role of alexithymia in the relationship between psychological distress and internet addiction. This research was conducted on a sample of 625 participants (M = 24.53; SD = 6.84), and 446 were female (71.4%). They filled out a questionnaire designed to assess psychological distress, internet addiction, and alexithymia. Our results reveal the direct relationship between psychological distress and internet addiction, as well as the mediating role of alexithymia. These findings emphasize the significance of alexithymia as a critical mediator in the development of internet addiction, suggesting that difficulties in identifying and processing emotions may exacerbate internet addiction. Individuals with alexithymia often struggle with emotional awareness and regulation, which can lead to a greater reliance on online environments to manage their emotional discomfort. This can further reinforce maladaptive behavior patterns, making it increasingly difficult to address the underlying psychological issues and leading to a cycle of emotional isolation and dependency on the internet. The theoretical and practical implications of the present work are discussed.
Knowledge of species distributions is essential for informing policies on nature conservation and restoration. However, updating them on a regular basis and doing so in a harmonized manner at the international level is difficult. The European Bird Census Council integrated national monitoring data covering 5 years to update farmland bird distributions and assessed how they changed. We used these data on 50 farmland bird species to generate 10×10 km maps showing their probability of occurrence from 2018 to 2022. We produced these maps with weighted ensemble species distribution models. We also developed models for the previous 5 years and plotted the differences in probabilities of occurrence per 10 × 10-km area between the two periods as calibrated change maps. We evaluated model performance at continental and regional levels and interpreted changes in probability of occurrence in relation to known abundance trends. Models showed good predictive performance (mean AUC ≈ 0.84; mean squared error ≈ 0.13). Change estimates were reliable for 43 species (high accuracy, low bias), and distribution changes were positively correlated with independent abundance trends (Pearson's r ≈ 0.50). Thus, the distribution maps for the two periods accurately captured species' distribution patterns and their temporal changes for all species at the European scale and for the majority of species in all regions except southeastern Europe. Among the 43 species with reliable estimates, predicted occurrences declined for 33 species, increased for nine, and were the same for one species. For most species, the direction of change in distribution was consistent with changes in species overall abundance in the same period, except for four species. Overall, our results indicated a recent contraction of farmland bird distributions in Europe, highlighting the strong capacity of existing bird monitoring networks to provide continent-wide species maps that can be updated regularly.
Resistivity, rho(T), of the Cu2Zn1-xCdxSnS4 (CZCTS) solid solutions is investigated within the temperature range of 10-300 K. The nearest-neighbor hopping (NNH) conductivity is observed within the temperature interval of similar to 110-190 K, whereas the Mott variable-range hopping (VRH) conductivity is identified in the temperature range of similar to 60-140 K. Analysis of the resistivity separately in the NNH and the Mott VRH conduction regimes have yielded the values of the NNH activation energy, E-n approximate to 22-68 meV, the semi-width of the acceptor band, W approximate to 9-58 meV, the relative acceptor concentration, N/N-c approximate to 0.27-0.80, where Nc is the critical concentration of the metal-insulator transition (MIT), and the localization radius in units of that far from the MIT, a/a(0) approximate to 1.4-4.9.
The aim of this paper is studying the two-sided remotely almost periodic solutions of ordinary differential equations in Banach spaces of the form x'=A(t)x+f(t)+F(t,x) with two-sided remotely almost periodic coefficients if the linear equation x'=A(t)x satisfies the condition of exponential trichotomy and nonlinearity F is "small".
Chemical synergism is widely invoked to explain performance enhancement in heterogeneous catalytic and multiphase engineering systems, yet the term is frequently used without rigorous physicochemical criteria, leading to confusion between genuine cooperative effects and simple kinetic or structural improvements. This work establishes explicit thermodynamic criteria for chemical synergism and introduces a cooperative stabilization concept linking interfacial irreducibility with measurable non-additivity. Chemical synergism is defined as arising exclusively in heterogeneous systems where cooperative interfacial interactions generate stabilized ternary or higher-order entities irreducible to independent binary contributions. Within this formulation, amplification of measurable properties (rate, selectivity, yield, or efficiency) is interpreted as a manifestation rather than a definition of synergism. Representative literature examples are critically reassessed to distinguish true cooperative equilibria from apparent enhancements caused by dispersion or transport effects. Operational descriptors are introduced to enable consistent comparison of non-additive behavior across systems. By providing explicit criteria and engineering interpretation, the framework supports rational catalyst and process design while preventing misclassification of performance amplification as chemical synergism.
