Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly transitioned from theoretical promise to clinical reality in dentistry. Its applications span diagnostic imaging, predictive analytics and patient-centered care offering solutions to long-standing challenges such as diagnostic variability and delayed disease detection. Objective: This manuscript synthesizes recent evidence case reports and systematic reviews to highlight AI’s transformative role in clinical dentistry, focusing on diagnostic accuracy treatment planning and ethical considerations. Methods: A narrative review of systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and case-based studies published between 2024–2025 was conducted. Case applications include radiographic interpretation oral cancer screening and restorative dentistry innovations. Results: AI demonstrated diagnostic accuracy ranging from 82–95% across dental specialties [1,2]. Case reports reveal improved sensitivity in caries detection, predictive modeling of periodontal disease and enhanced oral cancer screening [3,4]. AI-assisted restorative procedures reduced variability and improved precision [5]. Conclusion: AI is reshaping dentistry by bridging academic research with clinical practice. Its integration promises equitable access to advanced diagnostics, improved patient outcomes and a redefined educational framework for future dental professionals.
Background Anomalous origin of the right coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ARCAPA) in association with primary mitral regurgitation is an exceedingly uncommon congenital anomaly. Case Summary A 56-year-old man with progressive dyspnea for 12 years, apparently because of degenerative mitral regurgitation, was incidentally diagnosed with ARCAPA on coronary angiography during preoperative evaluation for mitral valve repair. Coronary computed tomography angiography confirmed ARCAPA, detailing the aberrant anatomy. The patient underwent successful complex mitral valve repair, closure of the coronary-pulmonary artery connection, and reimplantation of the right coronary artery into the ascending aorta, with modified cardioplegia. Postoperative imaging demonstrated effective repair and restoration of normal coronary perfusion. Discussion ARCAPA is diagnosed by dilated right coronary artery, retrograde flow, and extensive collaterals on imaging. Correction of coronary steal and restoration of 2-vessel anatomy can be achieved through surgical repair or an endovascular approach. Take-Home Messages ARCAPA should be considered in the differential diagnosis of adult onset exertional dyspnea. A missed preoperative diagnosis may lead to catastrophic ischemia following cardioplegia delivery.
Relevance. Hypertension and pre-hypertension are increasingly prevalent in India and contribute significantly to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Physical inactivity is a major modifiable risk factor influencing blood pressure regulation, particularly among young adults and healthcare populations. Aim. To assess the prevalence of normotension, pre-hypertension, and hypertension and to evaluate the correlation between blood pressure and physical activity among adults aged 18–60 years at Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, College of Medical Sciences, Jaipur. Materials and methods. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted among 700 participants. Blood pressure was measured using a standard mercury sphygmomanometer. Physical activity was assessed using the World Health Organization Global Physical Activity Questionnaire. Participants were categorized into inactive, moderately active, and vigorously active groups. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 16.0. Results. The prevalence of normotension, pre-hypertension, and hypertension was 65 %, 34.85 %, and 0.02 %, respectively. Nearly half of the participants (46.2 %) were physically inactive. Pre-hypertension was significantly more common among physically inactive individuals. Increased levels of physical activity were associated with lower mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure values. Conclusion. Physical inactivity is strongly associated with elevated blood pressure. Early lifestyle modification with emphasis on regular physical activity can prevent progression from pre-hypertension to hypertension and reduce future cardiovascular risk
Background: Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSMF) is a long-lasting and progressive disorder that can become cancerous. It is mainly linked to chewing areca nut and smokeless tobacco. The condition causes the tissues in the mouth to become stiff, which leads to limited mouth opening, a burning feeling, and a higher risk of cancer. Changes in certain trace elements in the blood have been connected to how OSMF develops and could help track the disease or catch it early. Aim: To estimate and compare the serum levels of trace elements—copper, zinc, iron, and magnesium—in patients with Oral Submucous Fibrosis and healthy individuals. Materials and Methods: A hospital-based comparative case-control study was conducted in the Department of Oral Pathology, Vyas Dental College and Hospital, Jodhpur. A total of 50 participants were enrolled, comprising 25 clinically diagnosed OSMF patients and 25 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. The clinical diagnosis was based on a detailed history and characteristic oral manifestations. Venous blood samples were collected, serum was separated by centrifugation, and trace element concentrations (copper, zinc, iron, and magnesium) were estimated using standard reagent kits with a semi-automatic analyzer. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS Version 15.0. Independent t test, Chi-square test, and one-way ANOVA were applied, with a p-value ≤0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: OSMF predominantly affected young adults, with the majority of patients belonging to the 21–40-year age group, and demonstrated a marked male predominance. Serum copper levels were significantly higher in OSMF patients compared with healthy controls. In contrast, serum zinc, iron, and magnesium levels were significantly lower in the OSMF group (p ≤ 0.05). Serum copper showed a significant positive association with the duration of chewing habits, while serum zinc also demonstrated a significant association. Iron and magnesium did not show a statistically significant correlation with habit duration. Conclusion: The present study demonstrates a significant imbalance in serum trace element levels among patients with Oral Submucous Fibrosis. Elevated serum copper and decreased serum zinc, iron, and magnesium levels may contribute to the pathogenesis and progression of OSMF. These findings suggest that serum trace element estimation may serve as a simple, non-invasive, and cost-effective adjunctive biomarker for the early diagnosis and monitoring of OSMF. Further studies with larger sample sizes are recommended to validate these observations.
The Indian nurses may arrive in foreign lands speaking different mother tongues—Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, or Punjabi—they have mastered a universal language that requires no dictionary: ‘the language of care’. The story of the Indian nurse is one of the great unheralded epics of the modern era. It is a story of migration, of incredible clinical skill, and of a cultural ethos that places "Seva" (selfless service) above all else. But perhaps most remarkably, it is a story of communication. The phenomenon of Indian nurses learning foreign languages is a powerful testament to their dedication to global healthcare. By bridging linguistic gaps, they are not only advancing their careers but also providing essential, compassionate care to diverse populations across the world.
