The design of a new 1,2,3-/1,2,4-triazole hybrid namely, 4-((1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methoxy)benzaldehyde (4) via Click reaction as a promising antimicrobial material was synthesized. The structure of the synthesized compound was confirmed by different spectral analyses FT-IR, NMR spectra, as well as elemental analysis. Moreover, DFT study was performed to analyze the kinetic and thermodynamic stability of 4. This compound was prepared in nano scale via two different carriers, chitosan and liposomes, with enhanced solubility and adherence. Their sizes were measured using transmission electron microscope (TEM). Also, the respective zeta potential values are +35.2 and +40.7 mV. Chitosan-loaded compound 4 showed a potent antibacterial effect against the tested pathogens. Escherichia coli growth which was completely inhibited after 12 hr of incubation. For liposome-loaded compound 4, the inhibition time was 16 hr. It is revealed that chitosan nanocarrier is more efficient and safer upon testing on VERO cells.
To present a rare plasmacytoid myoepithelioma of the hard palate managed with surgical excision, PRF and custom palatal stent. A 48-year-old male presented with a slow-growing, asymptomatic, 3.0 × 2.0 × 1.5 cm firm palatal nodule. CBCT revealed soft-tissue mass with slight bone erosion. Preoperative neurological examination was normal. Complete Surgical excision under general anesthesia was performed due to severe gag reflex and need for airway protection. The primary treatment included surgical excision with adequate tumor margins, sacrificing the greater palatine neurovascular bundle via ligation and cauterization for adequate tumor margins, and PRF as an adjunctive suportive healing measure stabilized in place by a custom stent. Immunohistochemistry (CK7+, SOX10+, S100 patchy positive, Calponin-, p63-, SMA-) confirmed benign plasmacytoid myoepithelioma. Patchy S100 is characteristic of this variant. Healing was uneventful. Expected palatal numbness occurred without functional impact. No recurrence at 6 months. Plasmacytoid myoepithelioma requires comprehensive assessment including neurological examination and patient counseling regarding potential nerve sacrifice. Combined PRF-stent protocol is a great adjunctive that optimizes healing. Bundle sacrifice for adequate margins is acceptable with minimal functional consequences.
Background: Cervical vertebral morphology assessment helps in the detection of skeletal maturity. This study aimed to evaluate the morphology of cervical vertebrae in individuals with different skeletal Classes of malocclusion. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted from orthodontic records of 78 Yemeni subjects (ages: 18-30 years old; 34 males &44 females), using their Pre-treatment CBCT images. According to the ANB angle, the individuals were divided into three groups: Class I, Class II, and Class III. Each group included 26 subjects. The CBCT images of these 78 subjects were evaluated to assess the morphology of the first cervical vertebra(C1) of all groups. Eight linear variables and one angular variable were compared in all groups including the horizontal outer anteroposterior diameter of the first cervical vertebra (HOAPC1), the horizontal inner anteroposterior diameter of C1(HIAPC1), the horizontal outer transverse diameter of C1(HOTDC1), the lateral outer anteroposterior diameter of C1(LOAPC1), and the frontal outer transverse diameter of C1(FOTDC1). Results: Cervical vertebral morphology varied among individuals with different anteroposterior skeletal patterns. HOAPC1: Class II measurements were significantly higher than Class I(p < 0.001) and Class III(p = 0.014); Class III measurements were significantly higher than Class I(p = 0.001). Outer Margin: Class II measurements were significantly increased compared to Class I and Class III(p < 0.001). Dorsal Arch Class III measurements significantly increased compared to Class I(p = 0.017). Superior Surface, Dens Angle Occlusal, and FOTDC showed significant differences between the three groups. Conclusion: The morphology of the cervical vertebrae is influenced by the anteroposterior relationship between the maxilla and the mandible.
BACKGROUND:The present study aims to provide a thorough assessment of the level of knowledge and awareness of oral cancer among a general population of Egyptians and at correlating the main risk factors associated with the level of knowledge. METHODS:One thousand twenty-eight questionnaires were distributed to the general public at 10 public places located in Cairo, Egypt. Questionnaire results were summarized via descriptive statistics followed by correlation which was performed on the answers to different questions. RESULTS:The overall knowledge of oral cancer among a population of Egyptian public was not strong, with 40% scoring 6-8 out of the maximum score 17. Only 14% of the participants acquired their knowledge from a healthcare provider. However, 47.2% did not know the symptoms of oral cancer. By common sense, 811 knew that tobacco is one of the causes of oral cancer. CONCLUSIONS:The Egyptian population demonstrated a low knowledge of oral cancer, a finding that is supported by the results of many previous studies conducted on other populations. This finding was significantly influenced by a sociodemographic factor, that is, a higher level of education and young age. Therefore, educational programs and specialized departments are recommended to work on providing and imparting deeper knowledge of oral cancer.
